Report Card: 1965 War

The 1965 war ended with 9 Squadron flying 254 sorties of which 246 were day and night air defence, 4 escort and 4 counter air. PAF lost two aircraft in the campaign but both were attributed to pilot error with the pilot unable to control the aircraft under demanding conditions. However, not a single pilot from No.9 Squadron was lost. The Starfighter was credited with one Gnat air arrested, confirmed kills on two Mysteres and one Canberra while a probable on another Canberra. Apart from that, due to its fearsome reputation in the IAF, the Starfighter acted as a bouncer. The very mention of its name would clear the airspace with enemy aircraft.
